$4 Billion Plan for LaGuardia Calls for New Single Terminal Building
Cuomo: ‘We Need to Tear it Down’ and Start Over

New York’s LaGuardia Airport will get more than a makeover, based on a plan announced by Governor Andrew Cuomo Monday.
The $4 billion plan calls for demolishing the existing terminals and building one massive new terminal the length of two football fields approximately 600 feet (183 meters) closer to the Grand Central Parkway. The relocation will give the airport badly needed space for flight operations and taxiways.
“There is no way to fix this,” said the governor at a news conference at the airport. “We need to literally tear it down and rebuild it.”
The new plan calls for an AirTrain link and 24-hour ferry service. Delta Air Lines, which owns Terminals C and D, will be a “full partner” in the project according to Cuomo. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey owns Terminals A and B, commonly referred to as the Marine Air Terminal and the Central Terminal.
The project, which awaits the Port Authority’s approval, could begin as soon as 2016 and should take 18 months to complete.
“It’s not a plan, not a sketch, not a dream, not a vision, it’s action,” Cuomo said.
