A London-bound Virgin Atlantic flight departing from New York clipped a fence as it was making a turn on the runway yesterday morning.
The wing of Flight 26 at John F. Kennedy airport hit a fence shortly before take-off, damaging the tip of the wing, New York Daily News reports.
A passenger tweeted a picture of the wing wedged against an airport wall.
“Noooooo!! They crashed our plane into the blast fence!! I just want to go home!!” the user wrote.
The aircraft’s 276 passengers were forced to disembark and wait for another flight.
Supermodel Bella Hadid was on board the flight and also tweeted about the incident.
The passengers were then reportedly made to wait more than two hours for assistance.
“When the delays caused by the pilots damaging the plane is followed by ‘good luck’ I’m not sure how to react,” one passenger tweeted.
“Only two agents available to handle the rebooking a of flight 26,” another wrote.
“Tumbleweed at @VirginAtlantic desks at #JFK,” tweeted another, sharing a photo of unstaffed Virgin Atlantic desks at the airport.
Virgin Atlantic responded to the frustrated passengers on Twitter claiming the incident happened because “the tug miscalculated things” while the plane was taxiing, causing the damage.
“The staff we have available are going as best as they can,” a staff member from the organisation wrote.
