Back at the end of 1989 Australia had an airline problem - our pilots entered into a dispute for more pay. The dispute, Prime Minister Bob Hawke refused to call it a strike, went on for a few months and very, very few domestic carrier aircraft got into the air resulting in spot hires from overseas to fill the gaps. In the case of Australian Airlines (later absorbed into Qantas) some RAAF aircraft were seconded to provide some of the limited services. This 707 is on short final for runway 23 and was seen in Adelaide a few times during the dispute.
