Awesome! Looked like a Liberator but the single tail didn't "fit" so I looked it up. Turns out that it looks like a Liberator because it's the Navy's version of one. A Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer. I do believe this is the first one I've ever seen, so I send my thanks to you, John, for sharing this excellent ***** shot. And, while I'm writing, the snaps of that DC-6 are super, too! I just sent out a short silent 8mm film clip of an AA DC-6B taking off from BUF in the mid 60s to a friend, and now I come upon your fine shots here. I know I'm dating myself, but seeing your pics of it and my brief film of it brings back very wonderful memories. TYVM for these posts. (Wave)

This was at the Yankee Air Museum at KYIP. Sadly, for some strange reason, this aircraft has been scrapped.

John, are you sure its been scrapped. All of the information I have seen from YAM says its being stored or restored.

I saw this aircraft restored superficially last August @ KYIP and it is part of the new wing of the Yankee Air Museum there. Check my photos to see it. It's painted a very dark blue now.

Interesting shot, John! I don't think this is the same bird I saw at 40G (Valle, AZ) a few years ago (N2871G), but I believe it (N2871G) is still flying since there are some pics of it posted to FA as recently as Nov 16. It is an interesting bird. The thing that stands out most to me is how big (i.e. tall) the tail is. I have a couple of shots posted to FA of the one I saw, but this one gives an idea of how tall it is:

Not the best quality shot ever, but you get the idea. Anyway, thanks for sharing your pic, John!

I believe this is Bu.No.45-9876...

Dave & William, well, I assumed it was scrapped. My bad then. I did so because it used to be stored out in the open, now it, along with the Argosy, and DC-6, whose pic's I recently posted have all vanished. Someone told me they were scrapped. Where are they stored then, inside the one remaining big hanger?
