Grumman G-44 Widgeon (N3TD)
Comments
I think this is a goose
It's neither. Contrary to its incorrect registration, it is not a "Grumman" Widgeon but rather a license-built "copy" of one built in France. It is a SCAN Type 30, serial no. 16. You can always tell the difference between Widgeons based on their serial numbers; if it is between 1201 and 1400, it is a Grumman G-44 (built between 1940 and 1945.) If it is between 1401 and 1476, it is a Grumman G-44A built after the war. If the serial no. is between 1 and 41, it is a French-built SCAN Type 30 - that's as in mfg. = "SCAN" and model = "Type 30" contrary to the stupid FAA registration which calls it a "Grumman SCAN Type 30" which is like calling something a "Chevy Pontiac Firebird" because it is similar to a Camaro.
