One of four P-51s taking off to perform an honorary four-ship Missing Man Formation flyover tribute to Brigadier General Clarence "Bud' Anderson, a World War II Triple Ace fighter pilot who passed away recently at age 102.
Nice! I got to meet GEN Anderson a few years ago. He was very gracious and well spoken. He signed a copy of his book for me, and he had lots of great stories. He'll be missed.
Greg ... I never had the honor of meeting him, but I have read about him, and the tribute was richly deserved.
Just have to love the old war birds!!

Man, as a kid in the 70s I built a P-51 model with almost this exact paint scheme, complete with the D-Day stripes, but it wasn't this one exactly. I knew of Bud Anderson but didn't even know he was still recently alive. 102! Wow, that's a good run!
Why the name change? Is it still based out of Hollister ?
A perfectly posed and 'shot' P-51. Doesn't get any better than this!
Hi Robin, Jesse, Keith, David, and Don ... TY to all for the Comments. Robin >> I definitely agree. And esp the Mustangs. Keith >> As I mentioned to Greg, I never met the General but I do know of him and he deserved the tribute. I caught a snap; I'll post it when I get a moment. Don >> Howdy. Been awhile. Hope you are well. TYVVM for the compli. I can share this and another of it if you want them. David >> Your question jogged a memory and prompted me to check back to my previous pics of this one. And sure enough, N5460V has two names. This side is "Little Sandra;" the other side is "Straw Boss 2." I apologize for the confusion. In the past, I had identified the fact that it had different names but I forgot when I saw it at this show. Sorry 'bout that.
Please post as many of these types as possible and also of other beautiful warbirds.
It's so boring to see one airliner after another on these pages when there are so many great aircraft buzzing around everyday. I think there's also a Corsair in Hollister and another P51 in Livermore along with a P-40 also at LVK. Both the P51 and P40 will likely be on display at LVK this July 4th IIRC as they will be giving vintage display credits that day.
