Qatar Officially Changes Transatlantic Routes to Avoid Arab Nations
As of Monday, June 5th, 2017 Qatar Airways has been forced to circumvent Arab Nations (such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia) that they used to use for their transatlantic routes. If Bahrain shuts down their remaining route, Qatar might as well go into the cruise line business.
And sell their big jets to Emirates
At least with respect to US/Canada routes, the route via Iran/Turkey is pretty much on the great circle.
