trying to sneak in under the weather? thought he could beat the weather? Worked as ATC at South Tahoe - always some guy wanted to fly in bad conditions... had a small Piper load up with luggage, wife, 2 kids when storm approaching... as he taxied out "Piper 123 taxi to rwy 18, wind 180 at 25 gusting to 40, caution moderate to severe turbulence and downdrafts over last 1/3 of runway" then same warning and "cleared for takeoff".. pilot in charge, not controller... turned left into hillside and crashed.. all survived.. over 100 wreckage sites within 30 miles of airport- almost all due to flying when maybe they shouldn't... crash avery 2 weeks summer Sunday PM

Used to be a common thing south of Seattle years back on woman found a missing light plane by looking out her kitchen window one sunny day. Seems right time of day right place for her to be the sun glinted off of a piece of wreckage. She called the FAA which found it as it had been missing for months.

Looks like CFIT (controlled flight into terrain). But that's just my armchair 2 cents.

Scud running is quite common and here is another pilot which killed innocent people that thought he was a safe pilot to fly with.

The pilot was the only person on board.

I had a suspicion that I would have a photo of the aircraft in question (registration N6201N) since this was local to me, and I do:

My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
