Pilot Report: Diamond DA62

Enviado

There’s a new twin in town — and Diamond Aircraft’s DA62 represents a major step forward when compared to the two other airplanes in its class: The Beechcraft G58 Baron and the Piper Seneca V. The differences are numerous, but the three most obvious include a sleek carbon fiber fuselage, seating for seven, and Austro turbo-diesel engines with full electronic controls. If you spent any time in piston twins, you know the only reason a Seneca is in this mix is cause they still make em. A Baron was a Caddy, a Seneca was a Dodge and the numbers on this airplane are impressive. Back in the day there was a Cessna or two in this loop, but, alas, apparently, no more. Anybody that wants to impress an old piston twin driver with a ride in a DA62, PM me. Like That insurance company, I've seen a thing or two!

Baron may have been a Caddy but is a handful to fly a fellow who flew them for the Army wrote about them and how one had to be on top of them more so than many other twins.
He by the way died in one a few years later.
As for the Continental 300hp engine have seen quite a few that failed in many different AC would rather have a lyc than one of those.
Know a fellow who has a DA42 with diesels in it the sound will get your attention just like a U2 did flying over one day.
