Why are the ME carriers throwing so much heavy metal at Kangaroo Land? A big country, but it has about the same population as SoCal. Are they trying to take out BA and QF?

Are they falling for that old line that Australia is "Asia's neighbor?" Ever fly Hong Kong to Sydney? It's nine hours. If that is the measure, Los Angeles and Berlin are neighbors too!

When I look at FlightAware maps there are always loads of planes flying about in Asia, but they have 3 billion people from Mumbai to Shanghai that need to zou zou about. The 23 million in Australia are but an asterisk on the balance sheet of passenger aviation.
