The original Falcon 900 had a very similar problem with the new design Honeywell (nee, Garrett) 731-5 geared fans when they were introduced to service, and they vibrated to destruction. But just every once in a while. Took them a while to figure out the harmonic in the planetary gear set that started the daisy chain leading to a destroyed fan and case. The result was the 731-5BR. Extra gear in the planetary set, Voila, no more shakes. Pratt will figure it out, but if it is anything as core as the -5 Garrett problem it will cost them a fortune because of the number of powerplants already delivered. And still growing.

Not to mention the damage to the brand and reputation. Convincing future customers to select their engines is going to be an uphill battle. No airline wants to see their newest aircraft grounded for months on end, or deliveries delayed due to a lack of engines.

All the manufacturers are having problems Torsten. It is because of the new tech. push and rush to certify and produce what is a fine Swiss watch on a walmart schedule. Good luck with that!

Messrs. Pratt, Whitney, Rolls and Royce got to be doing some uneasy sombrero dancing before their clients knowing that powerful law firms are on the prwl, if they have not arrived yet.
