Senators Blast United Airlines Via Twitter

Two former senators took to Twitter on Thursday to criticize the airline they were flying on Friday.

Reacting to poor experiences on board two separate United Airlines flights, physician and former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and former Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman went public with fairly pointed tweets while travelling.

Frist live-tweeted from the time he was moved from a first-class seat on United Flight 1486 to a seat “in the very last row next to a bathroom that’s in heavy rotation.”

The former Tennessee senator demonstrated a somewhat ironic sense of humor, tweeting that “I can confirm that the toilets on this @united flight work! My seat vibrates with each passenger’s visit!” wryly noting that United was keeping the plane’s weight down with thin bathroom walls.

Meanwhile, Coleman was on “another delayed United Airlines flight” wondering “will I miss my connection” and “is there a worse airline?”

United did respond to Frist: “Hi Bill, we’ll do all to accommodate your seating requests, but we do not guarantee specific assignments… Every airline reserves the right to adjust seating for operational purposes. We regret the confusion. Thanks for flying with us…”

Frist responded with more critical tweets but later thanked the airline, noting “Connection made; all is well” while asking for a refund “for selling seats that don’t exist.”
