DSC_0424Swiss International Air Lines announced it is tailoring some of its in-flight services and amenities to the special needs of travelers with allergies.

The airline has begun to offer lactose- and gluten-free food and beverage options to passengers with allergies, and will also allow these passengers to request  allergy-friendly snacks.

Travelers with allergies will also be able to order special in-flight meals tailored to their individual needs 24 hours before their scheduled departure time. These customized meals will be available in all classes of service on long-haul flights, and in business class on flights within Europe.

In addition, Swiss will make a number of modifications to its cabins in order to improve the travel experience for passengers with allergies. The airline will begin replacing down pillows with synthetic ones in first and business class, add new skin-friendly soaps to the onboard toilets, and discontinue the use of decorative flowers and air fresheners that could cause irritations to the nose and throat in all cabins.

As a result of these changes, Swiss has become the first carrier to qualify for certification from the European Center for Allergy Research Foundation as an “allergy friendly” airline.
