Air Algerie Plane Crashes With 116 On Board (UPDATED)

An Air Algerie flight from Burkina Faso to Algiers has disappeared from radar. There were 110 people on board and it lost contact 50 minutes after take off.

Reports say that flight AH5017 may have been over a high risk zone for US airlines, but there are no reports of what may have happened to it. The plane was reportedly in Mali air space when it lost contact.

UPDATE: According to Reuters, Algerian aviation officials have confirmed that the plane has crashed.

There were few clear indications of what might of happened to the aircraft, or whether there were casualties, but Burkino Faso Transport Minister Jean Bertin Ouedrago said it asked to change route at 0138 GMT (9.38 p.m. EDT) because of a storm in the area.
