I wanna walk down that Connie aisle! Those canisters at forward gear for leaks?

That B727 was a classy little airliner. I flew as military aircrew on her younger United sisters N7435U and N7438U (both B727-100Qc's after they were sold and became NZ7271 and NZ7272 respectively. Great aircraft.

@ Doug Cook - agreed!

I think those canisters may be concrete filled ballast drums to hold the Connie's nose down. No fuel, people (like yourself) taking that walk down the aisle to the back of the aircraft, and a gust of wind might be all it takes to point poor old Connie skyward again...but in a bad way...

I think you're right lordfarringdon.
Not standard equipment, but for safety.

Watched 7001 go through ORD when I worked there in UAL Line Maint in the early 60's. Got a tour through her at the restoration shop in Everett with a friend who'd loaded many meals (whats that now) at ORD. ORD was a check station back then and have some pix from the T tail stand in Hgr 5A of another early 27 in the dock. Those were great times, now even the original Hgr 5 & 5A are gone for a new E/W runway. Times they are a changin' JM
